NRC Confirms Continuation of Kaduna-Abuja Train Services Despite Derailment

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reassured passengers that normal train services between Kaduna-Rigasa and Idu-Abuja will continue unaffected despite a recent derailment incident.

Yakub Mahmood, NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, made a statement in Abuja On Sunday,emphasizing that the derailment would not disrupt operations.

“The NRC management regrets any inconveniences to our affected valued passengers. NRC wishes to assure our passengers of our efforts toward ensuring their safety and comfort always,” Mahmood stated.

He further assured that all passengers on the derailed Kaduna-Rigasa to Idu-Abuja train had arrived safely at their destinations.

“NRC engineers are currently at the site, working diligently to restore the affected track sections.

In response to the incident, the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation.

Bimbo Oladeji, NSIB Director of Consumer Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed the investigation via a statement Made available to Africa health report (AHR) on Monday, on Instagram through the official NSIB account (@nsibofficial).

“NSIB is aware of the derailment of an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna which occurred halfway into the journey at Jere. A team has been deployed to the site of the incident,” Oladeji said.

The derailment, which occurred on Sunday morning, involved three carriages skidding off the tracks midway into the journey from Rigasa Train Station in Kaduna.Security personnel, including the Nigeria Police and Army, were promptly present at the scene to provide support.
