Oyo Govt to Train 1,000 Students in Free Coding Technology

The Executive Assistant to the Oyo state Governor on Administration, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe, unveiled plans to train over 1,000 senior secondary school students in coding and non-code technology skills.

During a press briefing in Ibadan Rev Ogedengbe ,suggested that this initiative was aimed at promoting quality and long-lasting growth in the education sector, in alignment with Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 Agenda.

Ogedengbe, outlined that the program, slated to run from July 15 to 19 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, will kick off with selected schools in the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) within Ibadan main and lesser cities. Subsequently, students from other local governments will undergo training at later dates.

“This pilot program will witness an unprecedented event where 1,000 senior secondary school students from the 11 local governments of Ibadan will receive specialized training in coding and non-code tech skills,” Reverend Ogedengbe emphasized.

He further stated, “The next phases of the initiative would see us taking the training to the remaining LGAs with a view to ensuring that the impact is widespread and even across all the constituencies in Oyo State.”

Ogedengbe highlighted the significance of this initiative in aligning with Governor Makinde’s vision for education, emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and preparing youth for the opportunities of the 21st century.

“We aim to equip our students with the tech skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the increasingly digital world,” he said. “Introducing coding education to our senior secondary school students will allow us to lay the foundation for a future where they can excel in technology-driven fields and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state and beyond.”

He also expressed gratitude to partners like CodeGarage Africa, Zeeh Africa, and 386Konsult for their support in promoting digital literacy across Africa and facilitating this endeavor.
