Nigerian Troops Re-arrest 17 Suleija Correctional Centre Escapees

Nigerian military troops have re-arrested 17 out of the 119 inmates who escaped from the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger state.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, announced this development on Thursday in Abuja, stating that the arrests were made on April 24 when troops responded to the incidents and cordoned off the general area to secure the facility.

In addition to the re-arrests, Maj. Gen. Buba also highlighted the recent successful operations carried out by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE.

He reported that twenty-eight violent extremists were arrested and twelve kidnapped hostages were rescued within the last two weeks. Added that troops also recovered a significant amount of weapons and other items during these operations.

“Troops recovered 8 AK47 rifles, four dane guns, two locally fabricated guns, one SMG, 371 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 81 rounds of carts 7.62mm x 54 mm ball rimmed ammo links, 5 laptops, four magazines, two motorcycles, and ten mobile phones amongst others,” Gen. Buba stated.
