FCCPC Closes Chinese Supermarket Amid Allegations of Discriminating Against Nigerians

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken action against a Chinese supermarket located within the China General Chamber of Commerce, in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

The supermarket was closed by FCCPC officials after they conducted a surprise visit on Monday. Following their interrogation of Nigerian employees at the supermarket, the commission’s officials sealed the premises.

Nigerians had shown anger on Sunday over a discriminatory policy enforced by the Chinese Supermarket that only allowed entry to Chinese citizens and refused Nigerians.

Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager, acknowledged the policy but clarified that Nigerians within the complex were allowed access.

Despite the closure, suspicions linger that some individuals may still be inside the premises to evade scrutiny by the consumer protection agency.
