Protesters Demand Justice over Colleague’s Death at Federal Teaching Hospital

Ward attendants at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi state, took to the streets in protest, Thursday demanding justice for the death of their colleague, Salamatu Aliu, in the post-natal ward.

The protesters called on the Federal Ministry of Health to investigate the incident at the hospital. Chanting solidarity songs and holding fresh leafs, the demonstrators expressed their displeasure.

An attendant, who spoke anonymously, claimed that Salamatu was referred to another hospital due to lack of electricity and passed away before receiving medical care. The protesters blamed the doctors and nurses for negligence.

The incident mirrors a similar case that occurred months ago at the hospital, where relatives of a patient who died allegedly due to medical negligence attacked medical personnel.

The chief medical director of the hospital was unavailable for comment at the time, while the hospital’s legal adviser, Enny Onoja, stated that the matter was recently brought to his attention and is being investigated.

The protesters, however, returned to work following assurances that the matter would be thoroughly examined.
