Reps, Stakeholders to Meet over Enhancing Food Security Tomorrow

The House of Representatives Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, led by Rep. Chike John Okafor, has announced that it will engage with key stakeholders in the food sector in an effort to bolster food security in the country.

The meeting, scheduled to take place on Thursday at the National Assembly, will according to the House’s statement attract a diverse array of stakeholders with vested interests in the food security and nutrition sector. International partners including the World Bank Group, UNICEF, the Dangote Foundation, Helen Keller International, and Nutrition International are expected to attend the meeting tomorrow.

Chairman of the committee, Okafor, emphasized the committee’s broad mandate stating, “Our jurisdiction encompasses a range of critical objectives aimed at strengthening and safeguarding nutrition and food security in Nigeria.”

Among the committee’s focal points are enhancing legislative frameworks for nutrition governance, advocating for the inclusion of nutrition and food security in government priority programs, and liaising with national and international agencies on pertinent issues.

“This inaugural meeting marks a significant milestone in our efforts to address food security challenges,” Okafor added.

Commenting on the initiative, a representative from the World Bank Group remarked, “We recognize the importance of collective action in addressing food security issues, and we are committed to supporting Nigeria’s efforts in this regard.”
