Cause of Fire at FCT Minister’s Residence Unknown-Aide

The cause of the fire that gutted the private residence of the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, in Abuja on Sunday morning is yet to be ascertained.

“The exact cause of the fire was still unknown at the time of reporting, said the minister’s media assistant, Austin Elemue.”

Acting Director, FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, who confirmed the incident said that the fire destroyed the first floor of the building, despite his men arriving the scene promptly.

“The fire started around 9:45 am, and despite the delay caused by a running call rather than using the emergency line, the fire officers arrived at the scene promptly after being alerted”, Adebayo said.

He said, “They were all situated on the ground floor and failed to notice the fire in time to call the Fire Service. Eventually, a nearby individual alerted the authorities.

“Upon arriving, it was observed that the fire had consumed the upper floor entirely. Thankfully, there were no casualties, and efforts were made to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading.
