The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) branch, has expressed concern over the continuous migration of nurses in the country.

Chairman of the association, Victoria Samson, made this known on Wednesday during the JUTH 2023 celebration of International Nurses Day with the theme, ‘Our Nurses: Our Future; Problems and Prospects’.

She noted that the mass migration of nurses has left a void in the health sector, and urged the government to provide incentives for nurses that are still in the country by improving their welfare and working conditions.

“Nurses are a great manpower in the healthcare sector, and as such investments should be made nursing profession,” she said.

She also called on the management of JUTH to ensure prompt remittance of its association dues to ensure it carry out its duties effectively.

The chairperson of NANNM, Plateau chapter, Briskila Dabit, who was represented by Amos Agwom, stated that the healthcare sector may be in grave danger if proactive measures are not taken to address the brain-drain.
