Seven site workers sustained varying degrees of injury in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Thursday when a four-storey building under construction collapsed at Awosika, Old Bodija, in Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Sources said the injured persons have been taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for medical attention. But there has not been any record of deaths as a result of the incident, which reportedly occurred around 5:45 a.m.

A combined team of the Oyo State Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other security agencies reportedly carried out the rescue operation at the site.

When Daily Sun visited the scene around 11 a.m. on Thursday, the rescue operation had been completed as nobody was seen on the site. The makeshift gate to the site, which was made with roofing sheets, was locked and there was an inscription on the gate that the property has been sealed. It was said that the site was sealed by the government after the rescue operation.

Further observation revealed that some weeks ago, the Oyo State Housing Corporation had written a stop order on the roofing sheets, used to fence the site.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Adewale Osifeso, said: “The incident did occur at the early hours of Thursday 08/09/2022 along Bodija Axis, Under Ibadan North Local Government Area.

“In furtherance of the above, the site has since been cordoned with the adequate deployment of police personnel in the interest of public health and safety. More updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
