The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria on Thursday asked the federal government to pay its $2m balance of replenishment commitment and increase its contribution to 30 per cent.

Manager, High Impact Africa of the Global Fund, Jean-Thomas Nouboussi, made the call in Abuja when he led his team to visit the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

He thanked Nigeria for its efforts in mobilizing resources toward the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

He said the organisation was working with the Ministry of Health and other donor partners on the mobilization and utilization of funds from governments in alleviating the plight of patients living with AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Director, Information, SGF Office, Willie Bassey, in a statement, quoted the SGF, represented by Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, as saying: “On the need to remedy the balance of about $2m, we’re already in touch with the Minister of Finance.”
